Travel League Rules

- Shoes with white soles are preferred on the gym floor. If
they have black soles, they MUST say non-marking on the bottoms of them.
Most basketball shoes say this on the bottoms.
- Uniforms should have numbers on the front and back of the jersey.
- League Entry form, Team Roster and payment need to be received at least one week prior to start of a league.
- Each gender and age group will be considered full at the discretion
of The CAGE.. If there are not enough teams within each age group,
combining two ages will be considered. Teams will be added to the
website list as they verbally commit, then will be hi-lighted when they are
paid.
- The CAGE has the privilege to move any team to another age group, depending on need and/or skill level.
- The following per team will be admitted with no gate fee: .the head coach, assistant coach, and the bench personnel running the clock or scoreboard. Players also get in free. Regular gate fees are $ 2. Ages 10 and under are free.
- Each team shall provide one 28.5” indoor basketball.
- A season consists of 9 weeks. There will be a single elimination
tourney after the regular season.
- Please check the website by Friday of each week to see if any schedule changes have been made. They will be high-lighted to show a change was made.
- If a team cannot make its scheduled time, the game is automatically forfeited. The forfeiting team will pay a $50 fine to cover the cost of the officials if a game is cancelled. This will be due before the team’s next scheduled game.
- Games cancelled due to inclimate weather will possibly be rescheduled during the week.
Coaches will be called if games are cancelled, it will be on WTHR Channel 13,
and it will be posted on the website.
- As of now game dates for grades 2-5 are Saturdays: .
- We need to avoid congestion in the doorway/lobby area. When your
team arrives and you're waiting for your game to begin, if your team is listed
first on the schedule, please have your team wait at the far end of the
bleachers (far east end or far west end) of the court you'll be playing on.
Game Rules
IHSAA rules will be used with the following exceptions:
- School teams must play in the grade division of their oldest player unless
previously approved by The CAGE.
- All players must be listed on the official team roster, which includes parent’s signature, to be eligible to participate. All rosters must be finalized by week one of each season.
- Players may not be “double-rostered” on teams within the same grade.
- Teams using illegal players will forfeit all games played thus far. A second violation of this rule causes the team to be removed from the league without refund.
- A coach or player ejected from a game shall be suspended for the following game as well. A second violation in the same season results in suspension for the remainder of that season.
GRADES 3-5
- 20 minute halves; running clock
- Halftime — 3 minutes
- Overtime — 2 minutes
- If the game is tied after the first overtime, we will play sudden death.
- Pre-game warm up 5 minutes
- Man to man defense only for 3rd grade teams. Teams can play zone the
last 2 minutes of each half.
- Third grade teams can only press the last 5 minutes of each half.
- No full court press or half court trapping zone defenses of any kind may be played by teams with a lead of
15 or more points.
GRADES 1 and 2
- 20 minute halves; running clock
- Halftime — 3 minutes
- Overtime — 2 minutes
- If the game is tied after the first overtime, we will play sudden death.
- Pre-game warm up 5 minutes
- No full court press. We encourage man-to-man defense, as it teaches better fundamentals.
- No zones at all.
- No trapping or double-teaming (you can double in the lane).
- No defense until player with the ball crosses the half-court line.
- Foul shots will be approximately 12’ in length.
- Goal height is 8’ for 1st grade. Goal height is 9’ for 2nd grade.
